Key Take Outs of the Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020
Cyber Security Awareness Month was launched by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA)
and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in October 2004 as a broad effort to help
all Americans stay safer and more secure online. When Cybersecurity Awareness Month first
began, the awareness efforts centered around suggestions like updating your antivirus software
twice a year to mirror similar efforts around changing batteries in smoke alarms during daylight
saving time.
This year’s theme, “Do your Part. #BeCyberSmart” encourages individuals and organizations to
take proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity and protect their part of cyberspace. According to
an article on Forbes, named Booming Industries In 2020: Cybersecurity - it's been predicted that
the cybersecurity market could reach $400 billion by 2026. While the pandemic has impacted
just about every industry, cybersecurity is in a unique position to accelerate innovation and
growth.

Some brief hygiene tips on how you can celebrate Cyber Security Awareness Month
Start off Cyber Security Awareness Month by opening up your computer and running your
antivirus program on a deep scan. Throughout the month take time to look at all your devices
and run scans on them to ensure that they’re secure and free from viruses.
Change the password on your Network just to be certain, and update the security software on
all of your devices. Every day the internet becomes more dangerous for those who don’t secure
their devices.
In the view of the leading cybersecurity service provider company CBNITS, if you find any
anomaly in your system that you can’t solve by yourself, it is always better to engage experts.
Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting networks, systems, hardware, and data from digital
attacks. Gone are the days of simple firewalls and antivirus software being your sole security
measures. Cybersecurity risk is increasing, driven by global connectivity and usage of cloud
services.
